On August 16 2014 the Kickin Vixens (of New Glasgow’s Highland Derby Dolls roller derby league) hosted New Glasgow’s first ever roller derby bout (although technically the bout was in nearby Trenton NS) to take on the visiting Tar City Rollers from Cape Breton. Tar City were up 38-17 about 9 minutes into the first half but that lead quickly evaporated as the Kickin Vixens turned things around to suddenly take a 62-40 lead three minutes later. This would turn out to be the only lead change of the bout as the Kickin Vixens took a 141-112 lead into halftime. In the second half Cape Breton clawed their way back into the bout and were trailing by only 7 points (165-158) with 17 minutes left in the bout, but that would be as close as they would get to catching up to New Glasgow. The Kickin Vixens went on to win this historic bout by a score of 281-223. A total of three skaters fouled out (two for New Glasgow, one for Cape Breton) in a penalty-filled affair that sent the Kickin Vixens to the sin bin 57 times, as opposed to 52 times for the Tar City Rollers.
