In the first part of a roller derby double-header hosted by Moncton’s Muddy River Rollers, the hometown Mad Hitters took on the visiting Dockyard Brawlers from Halifax NS. The Mad Hitters got off to a good start with an early lead as they were up 24-13 after six minutes of play but the Dockyard Brawlers would came back to tie the score 24-24 with just over 19 minutes left to play in the first half. The teams then traded a few lead changes but the Dockyard Brawlers took a 40-26 lead a few minutes later. The Brawlers maintained a 10 to 15 point lead for the next 5 minutes or so (Brawlers were up 79-68 with 4:42 to go in the first half) but a scoring surge late in the first half allowed the visitors to take a 112-83 lead into halftime. The Mad Hitters fought back in the second half, eventually trailing by only 1 point (154-153) with 8:35 left to play. However the Dockyard Brawlers built back their lead in the last minutes of play to eventually defeat the Mad Hitters by a final score of 180-162.
